Physical Typography

The task for our physical typography workshop was to incorporate a loaf of sliced bread into our work and produce a type face based around the characteristics of the psychical bread itself. My initial thought was to use the contrast between the crust and the bread to make the text look three dimensional. like the bevel/emboss tool on photoshop where you can make typefaces looked chiselled. I used angular cuts in the bread to give the effect of depth and dimension. at first we only had to make one letter and I used F as I thought the angles on this letter would best display what I was trying to embody. As a development on from this original idea we got into pairs and began to develop the typeface as a whole. I really enjoyed the experimental nature of this task but I don't think as a way of producing ideas it was very feasible from a personal point as I prefer to work in a lot more of a refined production method where you can calculate the outcomes slightly more.
