Stencil Poster
Above I have attached a timeline of pictures from the stencil workshop we did today with Nick. The inspiration and visual references for this workshop were the propaganda pictures used from the French revolution. We had to imitate the style of design and print using content based around worded references that we picked out of a box.
My visual reference was 'Females at work'. My initial reaction to this was to draw something empowering and linked to feminism because of the recent uproar about equal pay in the workplace because I thought that I had an idea about what quote I could use with that however I didn't know that we had to use a quote that we were going to pick out of a box. So instead I drew a silhouette of a typical female form with a bit of exaggeration on the features so that the print from the stencil would be clear. This basic iconography meant that I would help to tie in the quote that I picked easier and I also like the style as the simple form puts more attention on the visual effect of the text.
The quote I picked from the box was ' I've got bad intentions' which coincidentally actually works really well with with stencil I design especially considering I made the lips and eye lashes so big. I think it works really well as it look like pop art. There is a sort of seductive but fun aesthetic to it which I really like. I also think that the fact its unintentional works really well.
As a slight development I started to edit and combine the images in photoshop to see what outcomes I could come up with.
