Incorporation of hand drawn image
Integration of hand draw images in animation from John Brown on Vimeo.
Our tasking todays after effects workshop was to incorporate hand drawn images into our animation work in adobe after effects. The prep work that we had to do was draw an image and repeat it twice so that we had 3 images that were the same but nit identical. When scanned in and over laid on top of each other you could see that each image waster exactly the same. As usual we started off in adobe after effects with a blank canvas in HD size. I chose to import a stock image of paper from online as a background as I thought that this gave the animation a nice effect considering it was going to be about hand drawn images. I had previously edited my three scanned images using photoshop in order to remove the background and just have the black lines almost like a frame. Once I had the files in after effects we had to change the settings so that the video would play like a look as eacb still image would only fill up one frame and each second in a video contains 25. The 'JWB' animation is the three layered images which have been slightly offset and I changed the bottom two layers to red and blue as this reminded me of the 3D books that you can buy, and they are simply just repeated over and over again this is what gives it that wobbly old fashion television style of animation.
The complex part was the 'Design' layer as I wanted it to look like it was being drawn with an invisible pen. I first had to make a solid black layer and use the layer style 'Lighten' so that it would appear invisible against the white background even though in the hierarchy its on top of it, I traced the line of the drawing by hand using a mouse however I think it would of been more appropriate to use a graphics tablet on reflection as it would of been neater and looked better when it had been rendered, I am thinking about doing this as a development for my summative deadline. After I had the traced line I had to change the layer style of the line to 'darken' so that it would only pick up on the black solid later that I had used below. This meant that only the text would show in my chosen colour. When I was drawing the writing I had to draw in the pattern that I wanted it to be animated in so I drew from left to right. After rendering out this video and publishing it online I decide that I was going to refine some of the text and animation as a development from this task to improve the overall quality this may mean I can use it for marketing or advertising for my business page JWB Design on facebook.
