Motion Graphics 'Z-Space'

Using Z-space in animation allows us to transform 2D objects into 3D using layers. Our brief for this task was to create a short animation using Z space from an illustration file we created our self. As we were going to be working with movement I thought it would look good if the object I was working with was actually dynamic. For example the wheels on the tractor are both in there own layer which allowed me to rotate and a move them at the same time to give the effect that the tractor was actually moving.

Working with z-space means that you can arrange the layers on top of each other so when the camera pans out the animation has depth. Lighting will also add shadows and help with dimension, being intelligent with the way arranged my layers for example with the clouds I had them moving from behind one mountain but they came across the front of the other one. I wanted to emphasise this because it was the main task for the animation. It was advised that we used 10-12 layers in order to create the best outcome in the time that we had but I used 14 as the smaller elements like the wheels need their own layers to move, this didn't effect the overall quality as some of the other layers were stationary.

As a development on this I would like to extend the animation to 20 seconds and add some more dynamic elements to it for example a changing sky to emulate the time of day and also some animals in the field that move around. I would like to add some special effects like peel ups and fade ins to shows that I am using my after effect skills in all of my work.
