Self Negotiated Brief
As part of my self negotiated brief mark sheme I have to publish and evidence my research and production for this module, I will do this all in this one blog post and just continue to update it like a timeline.
For the first stage of my new project I used the frame work provided with questions on to begin to write the proposal for my brief, it helps you to begin to think critically about what you want to do for example promote or advertise and what you theme is and who it is aimed at. I drafted my proposal three times to refine it to the best standard and detail before saving it as a PDF for the submission date.
The next step was to create the InDesign document that would support the evidence for my research & development. The document I created was in HD screen mode (1080 x 1920 px) as this presentation will never be needed for printing. I laid out a grid to help me layout my work in an intelligent and purposeful way. Creating paragraph style is also a good way of getting a continuous theme running throughout the document.

Creating paragraph style is also a good way of getting a continuous theme running throughout the document.
For my research I looked into 4 different options as I felt this would give me enough styles to consider working with but not too many to not be able to narrow it down enough to be productive with my time. I chose sign writing, vector art, Swiss design & Retro design. I did in the end to choose to work in the style of sign writing so I will attach pictures of work I found inspirational and the page that I used in my document to evidence this.
I focused a lot on Nick Garrett who is my favorite sign writer in the UK he works massively in a style called guiding which involves gold leaf, it adds a really nice luxury touch to all his work. A lot of the work he produces is in black and gold so I almost feel like he ha a reputation for being regal and somewhat like the king of traditional sign writing in the UK. I want to emulate similar styles and visual outcomes in my work and prototypes but with a more appropriate or alternative medium.
As I decided a style to work in I designed 6 initial ideas in which I could begin to experiment with text styles and different illustrations in the style of sign writing for a pub chalk board. Each on of my ideas had a different message on as my project is surrounding the theme of alcoholism my ideas is to create a way of tackling it in a more specified and appropriate manor to the sufferer or cater to the largest population.
I then chose my favorite design after feedback from members of my target audience and from peers which was the 'What could the next round actually cost you?' they thought that the message was the most direct and effective and it has really good visual aids to back it up with. I adjusted the design by making small changes to it with drop shadowing on text and the style of the illustration. At the end of this I had my final design which I could make a prototype of to see how effective it would be in real life.
