John: Typography Development ( 3 Rough fonts)
Following on from my initial drawings based around organic typography, I have developed them from rough ideas into more solid forms that have several characters and you can begin to see characteristics and similarities between each letter.
Starting from the top the font with the arrows is a very abstract play on typography, I wanted each character to be slightly different in height and weight. It's a playful style as there is no uniformity other than the iconography of the arrow it is not a commercial font and I could not see it being used very often but as a piece of art or maybe as a one off piece possibly suitable for branding or promotion as it has the style of a logo.
The second one down is a lot more commercial and based around the idea of script fonts and calligraphy. I really like the flow of each letter and when I was creating this I tried not to take my pen off the page and make each letter one stroke this meant that I had to leave any mistakes that were made but I wanted this to be effective in the way that some mistakes can be beautiful.
The final font is a very analog looking font with grey accents, Similar the first font the characters are very stylized so this font wouldn't be very commercial however I much prefer the style of this on as each character follows a similar format so I can be used a lot more in graphics work and art. This is my favorite one of the three so for my next task I am going to digital develop this style and turn it into 26 characters in illustrator.
