Sara: Speed and Motion

Flamingo from John Brown on Vimeo.

This is the first animation iv produced fully in adobe after effects. The base image was drawn in illustrator but all the animation was done within the programme its self. The base image of the flaming is done in layers so that when I animate it each part if the flamingo can move independent when told to do so. Once in the programme we set up the default composition style for our work, The first thing to do was parent the layers so once the animation began we didn't have to edit it. The first step in mine was animating the flamingos neck, I moved the anchor point so that its neck would pivort directly from its body in the most natural way possible to do this you open the tap in the layers tab that allows you to edit the layer style. You set the beginning position of your animation and click the stop watch in the rotation bar you then drag the cursor along the timeline to when you want the animation the end and adjust the image by rotating its neck, when you now play the animation after effects will animate the neck its self and perform the movement between the two stills to create a moving image. I did the same process with the legs to make them move.

To animate the background I added each shape as a new layer and like the rotation you set it to the start position which was outside the visible area but you now select the stop watch in the position column and then using the cursor tools drag the shape across the screen to where you want it to end after effects will make the transition smooth as if the shape is floating across the screen, the same effect is applied to the text as it has the same characteristics as a shape layer.
