Species of spaces 7/10/16

During the studio practice session our first task was to draw a birds eye view of a memory we have from our pasts from different scales from 1m-100m. My memory was of going on holiday to a resort in Turkey so for the 100m I drew my hotel in the middle and the surrounding area as it looked from google maps and with each drawing I did the scale got smaller until I was 1m away which was looking at my face whilst I was in the pool. My other memory was of the silverstone race track which I drew from above and then zoomed in on the start finish line and the grass. I like the effect that this kind of drawing has because each picture is telling the exact same story but using a different image.

The second part of our day was a collaborative task in which we were given a 3m long piece of paper and in our group of 5 we had to combine our memories to create a timeline/map of what we all have done. My group all had a theme running around either travelling or going on a holiday so we combined our ideas as a map of the world and what it would be like to travel from each of our destinations with a drawing of a situation from the holiday. At the beginning of the map there was a drawing of our house and then a plane with a travel ticket to show that we were changing places. The effect was really good because it effectively showed the relation between time and place in a creative way.
