Bauhaus 10/10/16
'Form follows function'
Bauhaus is a German art school that first opened in 1919 in Weinmar it closed in 1933 after 24 short years because of a government decision. The whole idea of bauhaus was that it was to develop an idealistic way of living it stripped back all the unnecessary things from life and art back to what really made things work but also presented them in a very beautiful way. The bauhaus was running in the art movement called modernism which was a movement where art was very minimal and plain, the simple but elegant things were the most influential at this time.
Personally I really like the style of everything that came from the bauhaus I work in a similar way using very minimalist but clean ideas. I don't like busy or over populated work, the open day poster that was designed for the bauhaus is one of my favorite pieces of graphic design because its so simple and geometric also the colour palette is really small so its very fluid and clean.
Kandinski's shape test
This test asks you to fill each shape with one of the primary colours.
I chose the circle as yellow because the sun is yellow and it's at the center of our solar system.
The triangle is red because usually we see triangles in warning lights or signs which are highlighted using red.
The square is blue because blue is a neutral colour and a square is a very neutral and even shape which makes them seem like they should go together.
Mum
My mum has the exact same response as me because she said that the circle is yellow because of the sun and triangles are mostly used in red but she had no reason to make the square blue apart from the fact that it was the only colour left.
